    Job Title: Corporate Debt Officer

    A bit about us:

Liverpool is home to vibrant, energetic, and engaged communities, people who take real ownership of their local area and are passionate about making our city a better place. We've got ambitious targets to meet by 2025 and we need people who are driven, dynamic and ready to deliver the very best for our communities. Public service is more important than ever, and this role represents a real opportunity to make a difference to our communities by transforming the way we work and placing our residents at the heart of everything we do.

Working at Liverpool City Council provides an opportunity to contribute to your community and make a positive impact on the lives of residents. Our values shape how we work to deliver public services, and how we communicate with the residents we serve. We care about the best outcomes for local people, through our public services.

We are proud of our world-famous thriving city with its rich culture, as well as affordable housing, good schools, beautiful green spaces – there’s really something for everyone!

    The Role:

We are looking for a committed and capable Corporate Debt Officer to join our Transactional Services team. If you enjoy working with people, solving problems, and making a real difference in the community, this could be the perfect role for you.

    What the Role Involves

You’ll be managing and recovering debts owed to the Council, ranging from council tax and sundry income to adult social care charges. It's a mix of financial know-how and good people skills—you'll negotiate repayment plans, offer guidance on financial support, and ensure recovery is done fairly and respectfully.

This is a role where your communication and judgement matter. You'll be speaking with residents, assessing financial situations, and supporting those in difficult circumstances. You'll also work on complex cases and may represent the Council in magistrates court.

    About You

    We’re looking for someone who:

    • Has experience in debt recovery (especially in a local authority or similar setting)
    • Can handle sensitive conversations with confidence and empathy
    • Knows their way around council tax, financial policies, and relevant legislation
    • Is comfortable using digital systems and interpreting financial data

It’s great if you’ve used systems like Northgate, SAP, or Civica Legal—but if not, we’ll support you to get there.

    What We Offer:

    • A role that directly supports Liverpool’s residents and communities
    • A welcoming team and a professional working environment
    • Opportunities to develop your skills and grow your career
    • The chance to contribute to service improvements and innovation

Sound like a good fit? Apply now and become part of a team that balances efficiency with empathy—and always aims to do the right thing.

    Our offer to you:

    • At least 27 days holiday, plus bank holidays rising to 32 after 5 years’ service (pro rata if part time) - option to purchase further days
    • Agile working (role dependent) - a “Flexibility First” approach to agile working, where flexibility is the norm rather than the exception
    • Part of the Local Government Pension Scheme – option to join the AVC Scheme
    • Progression - opportunities and training through a wide range of high quality learning
    • Health and Wellbeing - offer including Employee Assistance Programme
    • Cycle to Work and Travel Pass Schemes
    • Drive Time – a salary sacrifice car lease scheme
    • Family friendly policies with enhanced leave
    • Discounted Gym Memberships
    • Employee Volunteering Scheme
    • Medicash
