We have a number of exciting opportunities to become an apprentice at Brentwood Borough Council and/or Rochford District Council.

We are looking for individuals who are ready to start their career in Local Government. I turn, we will support you to develop your knowledge and skills in your relevant area, gaining valuable insights and experience in a working environment. Please read the opportunities below for further information on these exciting opportunities.

We are looking to appoint 6 apprentices, when applying, please state which opportunity you are most interested in. If you are interested in more than one, or wish to apply for all apprenticeships, please also state this. The successful applicants will undertake a relevant apprenticeship programme alongside their apprenticeship role at the council.

Interviews will be held on Friday 3rd October 2025 at Brentwood Council for shortlisted candidates.

Corporate Apprentice (Human Resources)

The HR team supports both Rochford District & Brentwood Borough Council. The HR Apprentice will learn to respond to a varied range of day to day administration enquiries, assist with all aspects of recruitment including interview support when required. You will be supported to develop your knowledge and skills to enable you to provide advice and guidance on both internal policies and processes, terms and conditions, all in line with employment law and legislation.

There are also opportunities to get involved in corporate events, wellbeing initiatives and training and development.

Corporate Apprentice (Finance)

The Finance team supports both Brentwood Borough Council and Rochford District Council. As a newly formed team this is an exciting time to explore different areas of finance. You will be part of a multi disciplined team experiencing all areas of finance including Management Accounting, Technical Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts receivable and insurance. You will be supported to study AAT at the appropriate level, this is the ideal opportunity to kickstart your finance career.

Corporate Apprentice (Customer Services)

The Customer Services team supports both Brentwood Borough Council and Rochford District Council through a multi-channel contact centre. As an apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience handling enquiries by phone, email, and in person, while developing a broad understanding of local government. The role also helps build confidence, improve communication skills, and supports personal growth. It’s suited to individuals who are eager to learn, proactive, and committed to delivering excellent service.

Corporate Apprentice (Homelessness)

The homeless service provides vital support to individuals and families who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. It offers a range of interventions including housing advice, temporary accommodation, assistance with accessing long-term housing solutions, and support with tenancy sustainment. The service also works in partnership with other agencies to address underlying issues such as mental health, substance misuse, domestic abuse, and financial hardship. Its aim is to prevent homelessness wherever possible and ensure that those affected receive the help they need to rebuild their lives in safe and stable housing.

Community Leisure and Health Services Apprentice

The role will support the Public Health Officer across the Rochford District and sits in the Community, Leisure and Health team that works across Brentwood Borough Council and Rochford District Council. A key part of the role is working in partnerships with the voluntary Sector, NHS (South East Essex Alliance) and Essex County Council Public Health Team. You will be supporting the delivery of the objectives of the Health and Wellbeing Board as well the Council’s Corporate Priorities around health and wellbeing to reduce health inequalities across the district

Housing – HRA Apprentice

About the candidate:

You will be proactive, innovative, present a strong level of interpersonal skills and share our organisational values (Nurture, Belong, Innovate, Trust).

To be successful you will need to be able to work well within a team managing a demanding workload. You need to be professional, able to manage your own performance as well as being adaptable and resilient. Demonstratable IT skills are essential as is good communication and interpersonal skills.

The apprenticeships will be for 21 months, to allow time to complete the relevant apprenticeship qualification.
