Starting Salary: £48,226 + £7,146 market enhancement per annum, progressing to £53,459 + £6,984 market enhancement per annum (plus welcome payment - terms apply)

About the role

As a Consultant Social Worker, you will be based in our West Family Help Team, where you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Team Manager with the day-to-day operations of a busy and dynamic service. In addition, you will provide supervision and guidance to a small group of Family Practitioners, helping them deliver high-quality support to families.

You will lead best practice and strengthen our commitment to supporting disabled children and their families. Our West Family Help Team works at the heart of this mission, providing practical and emotional support to families so that children can thrive. Your role will be essential in helping Family Practitioners deliver this support effectively and confidently.

You will bring expert knowledge of the legal framework and the multi-disciplinary nature of our work, ensuring that interventions are safe, proportionate, and focused on achieving positive outcomes. Alongside managing a varied caseload, you will guide and supervise Family Practitioners, offering professional advice and reflective supervision to help them navigate complex situations and deliver high-quality family help.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing needs and circumstances across a diverse range of cases, balancing independence with safeguarding considerations.
  • Supporting Family Practitioners to implement creative, strengths-based approaches that empower families and build resilience.
  • Advising families and their networks on community resources and services that can make a real difference.
  • Collaborating with statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure joined-up support and great life outcomes for children.

About you

Essential:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Knowledge of legislation, guidance, policy, and procedures
  • Ability to complete robust assessments & to assess risk
  • Ability to work in a relationship-based way
  • Understanding of equality and diversity in Social Work
  • Ability to input and maintain accurate computerised information and records
  • Ability to work on own initiative managing and prioritising own workload under pressure and under the direction of the supervisor

Desirable:

  • Knowledge/experience of working with Disabled Children and Young People
  • Knowledge of legislation, guidance, policy, and procedure specific to Disabled Children and Young People
