Are you ready for a new challenge?

Do you have a passion for working with young people, helping them grow in confidence, discover their strengths, and explore new opportunities? If so, we'd love to hear from you!

We want Barnsley to be the place of possibilities of everyone and within this, we want every child and young person to thrive and prepare them for their future, helping them to learn and grow as they enter into adulthood.

As part of a small Community Youth Work team, your role will involve working closely with young people on a day to day basis within and outside school and with local community partners to build relationships, identify young peoples needs and develop programmes of support that provide them with places to go, someone trusted to talk to and something positive to do.

You will have responsibility for planning and delivering issue based programmes of work, mentoring a small number of targeted students who may have a level of additional need or attendance issues and working in partnership with other wraparound services and professionals within the local community and school settings as part of a local youth offer.

The Community Youth Workers will provide a much needed positive adult role model for some of our more vulnerable young people and as such we require a Level 4 Qualification ie; Youth and Community Work or substantial equivalent experience in a relevant subject area.

As part of your role, you will design and deliver group work programmes in a variety of settings, helping young people to develop skills and confidence and address contemporary youth related issues. You will also attend community events, explore creative ways to engage young people and support the pilot evaluation by recording outcomes and performance metrics.

    What We're Looking For:

    - Significant youth work related experience

    - Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

    - Excellent listening and communication skills with a diverse range of service users

    - Creativity and confidence in designing inclusive workshops and group sessions

    - Good written and IT skills to accurately record sessions, activities and evaluation

    - Flexibility to adapt to the needs and interests of young people

As part of your role there is an expectation that you will work a regular pattern of three evenings per week based in settings and also out on the streets where young people access services as a recreational resources, as part of a local offer delivery programme.
