Empowering Barnsley residents through guidance, opportunity, and support

Are you passionate about helping people unlock their potential through learning and employment? We’re looking for a dedicated Curriculum Information and Support Officer (CISO) to join our Employment and Skills team and support Barnsley residents on their journey to personal and professional success.

As part of our inclusive and resident-focused service, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality information, advice and guidance (IAG). You’ll help individuals identify the right learning and employability pathways, overcome barriers, and access the support they need to thrive.

Shape a better future with us

We’re thrilled to have achieved Investors in People (IIP) Gold status for how we lead, support and develop people. Now we’d like you to be part of our success and help us take change further. Join us on our journey to a brighter future. By working together, with each other and with our communities, we can take pride in improving lives. Let’s make a better Barnsley for everyone.

    Your role in our journey

You’ll work directly with residents across Barnsley—both in our centres and in outreach locations—to assess their needs, provide tailored advice, and connect them with the most suitable learning or employment support. Whether it’s helping someone to think about their long or short term goals, or take their first step in a new direction, your work will make a real difference.

You’ll also collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure a seamless and supportive experience for every resident you engage with. From maintaining accurate records to celebrating learning and work outcomes, you’ll be a key part of our mission to improve people’s lives across the borough.

    What we’re looking for

This is a career graded position so is suitable for someone already qualified at IAG L4 or wanting to work towards this.

You will have a minimum L3 qualification in IAG or related field. You will also bring to the role a commitment to work flexibly, and an appetite for engaging in continuous training and professional development in this rewarding field of work.

    We’re seeking someone who:

    • Has experience delivering IAG and employability support to adults from diverse backgrounds.
    • Understands the local labour market and support networks.
    • Can build strong relationships with residents and stakeholders alike.
    • Is committed to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
    • Is proactive, empathetic, and passionate about lifelong learning.

Depending on your experience and qualifications, you may join us at Level 1 or Level 2 of the career grade structure, with opportunities for development and progression.

    Why join us?

This role is part of our wider commitment to the Barnsley 2030 Strategy, and the Inclusive Economic Growth Strategy, helping to create a borough where everyone can thrive. You’ll be part of a supportive team that values innovation, collaboration, and the power of education to transform lives.

The Team Leader will be responsible for line managing a team of Community Information Support Officers (CIS). We are currently recruiting to the CIS role, to find out more about the work that they do, see the advertised post
