    Community Development Officer

    An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the Active in Barnsley Partnership hosted by the Sport and Physical Activity Team, and be part of big changes in Barnsley. We’re committed to promoting wellbeing and tackling health inequalities in our communities. As a Community Development Officer in the Sport and Physical Activity Team, you’ll be instrumental with the Active in Barnsley partners in working with communities to help Barnsley to Move More. Live Well. Feel Better.

    Your role in our journey

    This role will be important to the Barnsley Active in Barnsley Approach, and the Place Expansion Programme supported by Sport England. As a Community Development Officer, you will provide specialist support through a placed-based approach in a number of communities to help create the conditions for more people to enjoy the benefits of moving more. You will need to be able to display:

    • You are excellent with people.
    • Experience of community development, strength-based and place-based approaches.
    • Knowledge of asset mapping and network connectivity.
    • Experience of working with local groups to create the conditions that help people to Move More. Live Well. Feel Better.
    • An understanding of the barriers to being active and how physical activity can help people and communities thrive.

    Working in close partnership with colleagues in the team, across the council and a host of statutory, community and voluntary groups, you will lend your expertise to programmes promoting physical activity, health, and wellbeing.

    What you’ll need

    To join us, you’ll need a mix of relevant qualifications with at least one being at level 4 or above, with extensive experience in community development and/or the sport and physical activity sector. With a flair for public engagement and partnership working, it is your talent for working with people that really sets you apart.
