Good Growth is responsible for delivering and implementing the Mayor’s environment, transport and economic strategies and for the effective implementation of the London Plan. The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.
About the team
The Environment and Energy unit is responsible for the policies and programmes related to the Mayor’s ambitions around the natural environment, climate adaptation and his net zero 2030 target.
The Programme Management Coordination team is a cross-cutting team at the heart of the Unit, providing leadership on governance, finance, business coordination, communications, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring and evaluation activities for the Unit. Working closely with the Senior Strategic Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Manager, you will lead the development and co-ordination of communications, marketing activity and stakeholder engagement relating to the portfolio of the GLA’s Environment and Energy team’s work, in including co-ordinating the preparation and delivery of this activity.
About the role
This role will lead the planning and coordination of communications, marketing, and stakeholder engagement for the Environment and Energy team. Sitting at the heart of a busy and high-impact policy area, you will be responsible for shaping how the team’s work is communicated to Londoners, stakeholders, and partners - maximising reach, clarity and alignment with Mayoral priorities.
You will work closely with communications colleagues and policy leads to develop and implement communication strategies that support key environmental programmes and campaigns. From overseeing the team’s digital presence, providing advice on media announcements and co-ordinating events, you’ll ensure the team’s communications are consistent, impactful, and aligned with the GLA’s brand and tone.
The role is highly collaborative, requiring close coordination with the Senior Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Manager, the Environment and Energy Unit, GLA External Relations, and other teams across the organisation. You will also be responsible for ensuring communications activity is effectively delivered - overseeing systems, channels and content development. This is a fast-paced role, offering the opportunity to shape how the Mayor’s environment and energy priorities are communicated across London and beyond.
What your day will look like
- Developing and coordinating communications, marketing and engagement strategies for environmental projects and campaigns, working closely with delivery teams, senior managers, and the Deputy Mayor’s office.
- Gaining understanding of a broad range of complex, technical policy areas and translating these into public facing messaging, while preserving technical accuracy.
- Leading the creation and management of content across key channels including the GLA website, newsletters, social media, and video platforms - ensuring messages are timely, accessible and engaging.
- Acting as the Environment and Energy team’s liaison with GLA External Relations, ensuring alignment with the Greater London Authority’s wider communications objectives.
- Planning and delivering high-profile stakeholder events, coordinating logistics and messaging to support strategic engagement.
- Advising colleagues on communications approaches, messaging, and reputational risk.
- Managing external suppliers, contractors and content creators, ensuring high-quality outputs and adherence to budget and GLA procurement rules.
- Maintaining systems and processes to track communications activity, monitor performance, and support continuous improvement across the team.
- Proactively identifying opportunities to promote the Mayor’s environment and energy policies, including joint communications initiatives with GLA functional bodies and external partners.
Skills, knowledge and experience

- Experience of leading communications and marketing activities and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in social media content creation, including video and reel production, with strong working knowledge of key social media platforms and their effective use for engagement and communications.
- Experience leading the planning and delivery of high-profile events, ensuring alignment with strategic communications goals.
- Experience of communications in a large, high-profile organisation regularly in the media eye.
- Experience of providing communications advice and managing reputational risk.

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
