    Job introduction

    Job Title: Commercial Business Partner

    About Liverpool

Liverpool is a city of vibrant communities, proud residents, and a shared ambition to make our city the best it can be. We've got ambitious targets and we need people who are driven, dynamic and ready to deliver the very best for our communities.

    Our Improvement Journey

We’re proud of our world-famous thriving city with its rich culture, iconic waterfront, major events and beautiful green spaces. We’re also proud of the improvement journey Liverpool City Council has been on in recent years. We have an inspirational leadership team who have a fresh vision, dedicated to the best standards in local government. It’s an exciting time to join us and be part of that transformation.

    The Ambition

The Commercial Team’s mission is clear: maximise financial sustainability across the Council. This is predominantly focussed on income from a wide range of Council services, assets, new commercial projects and company investments. Our approach is underpinned by clear principles: delivering public value, ensuring financial resilience, fostering a commercial culture, and driving service quality and innovation. We’re shaping a smarter, more resilient organisation.

    The Role:

    • As a Commercial Business Partner, you’ll be the bridge between our Commercial Framework and its delivery across all directorates. You’ll provide expert advice, challenge and collaborate with teams across the organisation to develop commercial approaches, deliver financially sustainable outcomes and support the Council’s Commercial Board. Expect variety, influence, and the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the way we work and the communities we serve
    • Success in this role demands strong commercial experience and the ability to build effective relationships across senior levels. You’ll need to collaborate confidently, influence strategically, and communicate with clarity while keeping sight of the bigger picture. Key skills include interpreting financial data to draw sound commercial conclusions, applying robust programme and project management approaches, and mitigating risks. Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced, evolving environment are essential
    • This is an opportune time to bring your expertise and creativity to the table, contributing to wide ranging programmes and projects that will have a lasting impact on the way the organisation operates and can deliver for the city. The diverse range of responsibilities means candidates with varied experience and expertise can excel and make a significant impact
    • There’s no “perfect” candidate – and that’s the point. We want a team of individuals with unique skills, fresh perspectives, and the confidence to innovate. If you’re dynamic, commercially minded, and passionate about public service, we want to hear from you

    Our offer to you:

    • At least 31 days holiday, plus bank holidays rising to 35 after 5 years’ service (pro rata if part time) - option to purchase further days
    • Agile working (role dependent) - a “Flexibility First” approach to agile working, where flexibility is the norm rather than the exception
    • Part of the Local Government Pension Scheme – option to join the AVC Scheme
    • Progression - opportunities and training through a wide range of high quality learning
    • Health and Wellbeing - offer including Employee Assistance Programme
    • Cycle to Work and Travel Pass Schemes
    • Drive Time – a salary sacrifice car lease scheme
    • Family friendly policies with enhanced leave
    • Discounted Gym Memberships
    • Employee Volunteering Scheme
