William Gilbert is an exceptional Church of England Primary School, where differences between people are nurtured and valued, and where children and adults are encouraged to flourish. We are a warm, welcoming and high‑performing school community, committed to providing a rich, engaging and excellent education alongside the holistic development of every child.

Located in the large village of Duffield, just five miles north of Derby, we are fortunate to be set within the beautiful Derwent Valley World Heritage Site, with the Peak District on our doorstep.

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Early Career Teacher to join our dedicated and supportive team. Applications are also welcomed from teachers who have recently completed their ECT induction. This is an excellent opportunity to begin or continue your teaching career in a school that places a strong emphasis on professional growth, collaboration and wellbeing. You will be well supported by experienced colleagues, a caring and approachable senior leadership team, and a culture that values reflection, learning and continuous improvement. You will be encouraged to develop your practice with confidence, knowing that you are part of a team that genuinely looks after one another.

Ideally, the post will be based in Key Stage 2, however we are happy to consider the experience, strengths and interests of the successful candidate and can be flexible for the right person.

We are looking for a dedicated and inspiring teacher who:

  • Has high expectations and a commitment to excellence for every pupil
  • Creates a nurturing, inclusive and engaging classroom environment
  • Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team
  • Fully adopt and adhere to William Gilbert policies and practices
  • Builds positive relationships with children, families and colleagues
  • Is supportive of, and contributes positively to, our Christian ethos

In return, we offer:

  • Polite, respectful and motivated children who love learning
  • A strong culture of professional development and support
  • A friendly, committed and highly collegiate staff team
  • Supportive governors, parents and parish community
  • A welcoming Christian ethos, inclusive of all faiths and none

At William Gilbert, staff wellbeing matters. We value teamwork, kindness and balance, and we are proud of the strong partnerships we share with our families and community.

Visits to the school are warmly encouraged.
