Civil Enforcement Officer
Mid Sussex District Council
Are you someone who enjoys being out and about, working independently, and helping your local community run smoothly?
We’re looking for a Civil Enforcement Officer to join our friendly Contracts and Services team, delivering a fair, customer‑focused parking enforcement service across Mid Sussex.
This is a role where you’ll make a real difference—keeping roads safe, supporting local businesses, and helping residents and visitors by providing clear, confident and polite guidance. If you’re professional, approachable, and enjoy a role that keeps you active, this could be the perfect next step.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Civil Enforcement Officer, you’ll be a visible and trusted presence in the district. Your responsibilities will include:
- Patrolling on‑street and off‑street parking areas on foot or by vehicle
- Issuing Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) fairly and accurately in line with regulations
- Supporting members of the public with parking‑related enquiries
- Using handheld devices and body‑worn cameras to record clear evidence
- Checking signage, road markings and reporting any defects
- Carrying out simple checks on parking equipment and enforcement tools
- Identifying and reporting abandoned vehicles
- Following relevant legislation, Traffic Regulation Orders and council procedures to ensure safe, consistent operations
You’ll work closely with a supportive team of fellow Civil Enforcement Officers and supervisors, while often managing your own patrols and workload independently.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience in a public‑facing role and can deal confidently and calmly with a wide range of people
- Pays close attention to detail and can record information accurately
- Can remain professional, polite and helpful—even in challenging situations
- Works well alone and as part of a team
- Holds a current, clean UK manual driving licence
- Is comfortable working outdoors in all weather
- Is willing to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis
You don’t need previous enforcement experience—full training will be provided.

Alongside a supportive team and a role that keeps you active and engaged every day, we offer a generous benefits package, including:
- Annual salary reviews
- Free on‑site parking
- Free electric vehicle charging
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for wellbeing support
- Local Government Pension Scheme with excellent employer contributions
- Discounts with local businesses across Mid Sussex
If you’re reliable, community‑minded, and ready for a role with variety and purpose, we’d love to hear from you.
