The Housing and Homelessness Service is a very busy environment and faces several challenges to meet the housing needs of citizens of Coventry. The team have grown significantly during the last 12 months and this reflects the fact that Housing & Homelessness are now a key council priority.
The team are responsible for the delivery of the following service functions:
Provision of the statutory homeless service
Provision of temporary accommodation
Management of the housing register
Co-ordination of support to citizens rough sleeping
Commissioning of homeless services, and
Responsibility for housing strategy
The Council has a strategic vision that is clearly set out in both the Housing & Homelessness and the Rough Sleeping Strategies which were both approved in 2019.
What is the job role?An exciting opportunity has become available within The Housing & Homelessness Service at Coventry City Council.
As a Choice Based Lettings Officer, you’ll be responsible for supporting the Council to carry out housing assessments in line with Coventry City Council’s allocations policy- Coventry Homefinder. You will need to be a positive, adaptable and motivated person who wants to help move our service forward and is continually seeking to deliver a high level of customer service.
The main duties of this role include:
- Assessing Housing Applications in line with Coventry Homefinder
- Work as part of a team to ensure at the Housing & Homelessness function delivers the
organisational vision for service delivery - Respond to a range of administration tasks
- Engagement with customers to gather information to support decision making and services
- Providing advice, guidance and signposting
- Work as part of a team to achieve performance objectives

- Has strong organisational skills and the initiative to prioritise their own workload
- Has a flexible approach
- Has IT skills sufficient to access and interpret information
- Has experience of dealing with a wide range of people in order to handle and resolve enquiries
- Cares about delivering an excellent service to every internal and external customer
Previous experience in Housing and Allocations is desirable but not essential.

This role is hybrid with office working majority of the working week.

Interview date(s): There will be a 2 stage-recruitment process for this role. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to invite them to the first stage of the process.
The first stage of the process will be 10.07.26 which will be a written exercise. Following the written exercise, successful candidates will be invited to a panel interview on either 17th or 20th July 2026.
Both recruitment stages will be face to face.

Salary range
- £25,989 - £29,540 per year
