The Role

As a Children’s centre worker within the Family Wellbeing Service, you will work across a variety of settings including family hubs, and outreach locations. You will collaborate with Family Wellbeing colleagues and partner organisations to deliver high-quality care and early education for children aged 0–5 years.

Your role will involve supporting children’s developmental needs through engaging, inclusive, and nurturing practices. You will build positive relationships with parents and carers, working in partnership to create a safe and supportive environment that promotes each child’s wellbeing and learning

In this role, you will actively contribute and support high quality care and education to children aged 0-5 years attending the Children’s Centre, ensuring developmental needs are met. Working positively in partnership with parents/carers whilst creating a safe and nurturing environment as part of the Children’s Centre team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist with the planning of the curriculum and delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage; providing safe, creative and inclusive opportunities for children to learn and progress; organising equipment, setting up and facilitating activities.
  • To be responsible for making observations of children’s learning and development and determining the most appropriate next steps (ensuring holistic practice is always considered)
  • To ensure activities are carried out safely and responsibly in accordance with statutory requirements, informing management of concerns.
  • To follow all policies and procedures and to be mindful of risk assessments throughout day-to-day duties.
  • To ensure the Children Centre offers the highest standards of physical, emotional and personal care, health and safety and food hygiene at all times.

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

Work Style

At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

This role falls into the category of Fixed Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:

  • 4+ days in the office
  • Spends most or all of their time in the office, due to nature of the work but can be for reasons such as unsuitable home working conditions or a desire for separation of home and work life.
  • The office remains a shared space with cultural encouragement for clear desk policies.
