Required from 05/01/2026

Our dedicated and much-respected caretaker is retiring after many years of loyal service and the Governors of Black Horse Hill Infant School are now seeking to appoint a committed and hardworking individual to take on this vital role within our school community.

We are a warm and friendly Infant School where children are at the heart of everything we do. As our caretaker, you will play an important role in maintaining and developing our school site so that our school remains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our pupils, staff, and visitors.

The role requires excellent organisational skills, the ability to work independently, a good level of physical fitness, and the capability to carry out basic maintenance tasks, minor repairs, and cleaning duties. A strong sense of responsibility is essential. Previous experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided. In return, we offer a supportive, friendly working environment and the opportunity to become a valued member of our school family.

If you are someone who takes pride in creating a safe and positive environment for young children to thrive in, we would love to hear from you.

For a full list of duties and skills required see the job description and person specification (M23) attached.

This is a permanent position, and we are looking for the ideal candidate to start as soon as possible. The hours will be 7am -11am each day. The contracted hours are 20 hrs per week but additional hours may be required for emergency key holding duties.

The Governors of Black Horse Hill Infant School are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, as part of our preemployment due diligence, we may undertake general online searches for all shortlisted candidates. This will include social media websites and video platforms. Online searches will only examine data that is publicly available.

All applicants will be considered on the basis of suitability for the post regardless of sex, race or disability.

Applicants who have previously applied for this role and were not successful are encouraged to apply again.

Please complete the application form, including a supporting letter detailing how you meet at least the essential criteria, on no more than 2 sides of A4. Please return the completed application form with a supporting letter to the Headteacher Mrs Julie Morris, Black Horse Hill Infant School, Saughall Massie Road, West Kirby, CH48 6DR

Closing date for the vacancy is Wednesday 3rd December at 4pm.
