We are very excited to be recruiting for a brand new post – Care Experienced Ambassador - to work with the Employment and Skills Service, supporting more young people who are care experienced to get ready for and take up opportunities in education, employment and training.
We believe that EVERY young person should get the support they need to overcome barriers, build confidence and aspire high and we’re looking for someone to help us achieve this.

About You
This post is for young people who are care experienced in Barnsley, and is funded until 31st March 2027.
As a Care Experienced Ambassador, you’ll use your lived experience to help Barnsley Council improve the support the Employment and Skills Services provides to children in care and care leavers. You’ll work closely with senior leaders and learning providers to help shape decisions and make sure young people’s voices are heard at every level.
You won’t just sit in meetings—you’ll be out there driving change, inspiring others, and putting your ideas into action.
- Work with groups like Care4Us and the Care Leavers Council, making sure young people’s views about education, employment and training lead to real improvements.
- Attend important meetings—including the Corporate Parenting Board—and present your ideas and findings to senior leaders, directors, and councillors.
- Work with us to help employers to understand the needs to young people who are care experienced and shape their work experience and other opportunities
- Promote the work of care experienced young people using social media, events, and creative campaigns.
- Support recruitment interviews for Employment and Skills staff—helping choose the people who support your community.
- Co‑design and deliver training for new staff
- Take part in career fairs and activities that inspire others to work in children’s services.
- Share your insight and advice on new service developments.
- Design and deliver activities for Care Leavers to support their entry into education, employment and training

We are Looking For Someone Who Is
- Care experienced and was looked after by Barnsley Council.
- Passionate about supporting children in care and care leavers into education, employment and training
- Confident (or willing to grow!) in speaking up and sharing ideas.
- Able to work with others, communicate clearly, and use social media effectively.
- Positive, motivated, and ready to help shape change across the council.
No formal experience is needed—just your voice, your story, and your commitment to making things better.

Salary range
