Business Support Officer
About the job
Salary: £27,254– £29,540 a year
Hours per week: 37
Contract type: Permanent
You’ll be working with a wide range of administrative and financial systems, keeping processes on track and making sure statutory deadlines are met.
Every day will be varied – one moment you’ll be handling enquiries from the public, either over the phone or face-to-face, and the next you might be updating housing records, supporting financial procedures, or applying detailed housing law processes to real-life cases. Accuracy, organisation and a strong commitment to good service will be key.
Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.
About you
You’ll bring with you proven experience of working with administrative systems and financial procedures, as well as the confidence to deal directly with the public. You’re someone who thrives under processes that have statutory timescales and understands the importance of getting things right the first time.
Ideally, you’ll have worked in a housing or financial environment before, and you’ll be familiar with housing law – particularly areas such as mutual exchanges, Right to Buy, tenancies, licences and succession. Knowledge of Health & Safety, and how to apply it in a practical setting, will also set you apart.
You’ll be highly organised, able to manage your own workload and support others to meet targets and deadlines. You know how to balance priorities, work on your own initiative, and keep everything running smoothly.
This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.
Communication is one of your strongest skills. You’ll be just as comfortable writing clear correspondence as you are speaking to customers, colleagues, and external agencies. You’ll maintain positive relationships while handling sometimes complex or sensitive issues.

Application Process
Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.
