    Job introduction

    Job title: Business Support Officer

    A bit about us:

Liverpool is home to vibrant, energetic, and engaged communities, people who take real ownership of their local area and are passionate about making our city a better place. We've got ambitious targets to meet and we need people who are driven, dynamic and ready to deliver the very best for our communities. Public service is more important than ever, and this role represents a real opportunity to make a difference to our communities by transforming the way we work and placing our residents at the heart of everything we do.

Working at Liverpool City Council provides an opportunity to contribute to your community and make a positive impact on the lives of residents. Our values shape how we work to deliver public services, and how we communicate with the residents we serve. We care about the best outcomes for local people, through our public services.

We are proud of our world-famous thriving city with its rich culture, as well as affordable housing, good schools, beautiful green spaces – there’s really something for everyone!

    The role:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Business Support Officer to join our newly established Education Partnerships Service — a fantastic opportunity to help shape a growing team and play a key role in supporting Liverpool City Council’s statutory responsibilities.

This is an exciting time to bring your ideas, experience and transferable skills to a service that’s evolving. You will be part of a supportive, collaborative environment where your contributions matter and where you’ll receive relevant development and training throughout your career.

As a Business Support Officer, you will work closely with:

    • Education Partnership Managers
    • Attendance Service
    • Education Relationship and Compliance Officers

Together, you’ll help develop, coordinate and support the business and administrative functions that support the Education Partnership Service.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Acting as a proactive problem-solver, anticipating team needs and helping to streamline processes.
    • Being the first point of contact for staff, schools and wider stakeholders — offering clear, courteous and confident communication in all situations.
    • Providing high-quality administrative support, including accurate data entry, record-keeping, finance and use of ICT systems, databases and digital tools.
    • Ensuring reports, documentation and information are completed to a high standard and within agreed deadlines.
    • Supporting the implementation of new procedures and contributing to continuous improvement within the service.

We’re looking for someone who is:

    • Organised, with strong attention to detail
    • Adaptable, with a positive approach to change
    • Solutions-focused, able to work independently and take initiative
    • Confident in communication, both written and verbal
    • Digitally skilled, with experience using ICT systems and databases

Experience in education is a bonus — but not essential. If you have strong transferable skills and a passion for supporting services that make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

This role is fixed term for the purpose of supporting the transition of education statutory functions from Schools Improvement Liverpool to Liverpool City Council and will end on 31 August 2027.

    Our offer to you:

    • At least 27 days holiday, plus bank holidays, rising to 32 after 5 years’ service (pro rata if part time) - option to purchase further days
    • Agile working (role dependent) - a “Flexibility First” approach to agile working, where flexibility is the norm rather than the exception
    • Part of the Local Government Pension Scheme – option to join the AVC Scheme
    • Progression - opportunities and training through a wide range of high quality learning
    • Health and Wellbeing - offer including Employee Assistance Programme
    • Cycle to Work and Travel Pass Schemes
    • Drive Time – a salary sacrifice car lease scheme
    • Family friendly policies with enhanced leave
    • Discounted Gym Memberships
    • Employee Volunteering Scheme
    • Medicash
