Do you want to make a lasting impact on businesses and communities by directly improving our local economy?
We’re looking for an ambitious and forward-thinking Business Support Advisor to support local business initiatives that drive growth, attract investment, and strengthen our local economy. This is a key role in the District shaping our economic future by working collaboratively with local stakeholders to deliver sustainable development and create opportunities for businesses and residents alike.
You will lead the delivery of the Council’s Economic Development Framework and Action Plan, identify opportunities for business support, including accessing funding, mentoring and developing businesses, and coordinating relevant business events.
Ideally you will have a good understanding of commercial development and knowledge of statutory regulations around economic development, or you will have experience of working collaboratively with external partners.
Key skills and knowledge include:
- Excellent communication and networking skills both written, oral and the ability to present to various audiences.
- A strong understanding of SMEs and the challenges they face
- Experience in a business support role, including researching for, and completing grant or loan applications
- Good digital and IT skills, including social media
- Level 5 Business Support Qualification (or equivalent)

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)
Local government across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland is changing. From April 2028, the current two-tier system will be replaced by two new unitary councils: Leicester Council and Leicestershire and Rutland Council.
The area served by Blaby District Council will form part of both new unitary councils, creating a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of local government across the region.
