The Role

Our Business Intelligence Service is responsible for council-wide data collection, analysis, visualisation, and performance reporting. We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Intelligence Analyst to join our service in the Children’s BI team. You will be dealing primarily with Education and SEND data using tools such as SQL, Power BI and excel to analyse that data and provide insight.

We’re looking for someone who is interested in data and information and curious to apply any insights to improve outcomes for our children. You will have at least strong expertise in using SQL and Power BI. You should also have some knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of local authorities overall and in relation to education/SEND.

Key Responsibilities:

• Extract data using SQL.
• Visualise data using Power BI.
• Contribute towards statutory data collections.
• Contribute towards developing data analytics to project future demand.
• Develop ways to improve data accuracy and quality.
• Respond to Freedom of Information Requests and any other adhoc requests for information, data and analysis.

Work Style

At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

This role falls into the category of Mobile Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:

• 0-1 day in the office
• Includes field workers who primarily work remotely.
• Comes into the office for meetings or focused work. Virtual connections with the team are essential, with portable technology supporting work on the go.

About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about data, analysis and preferably Education/SEND and who possesses the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria:

• Demonstrable experience of using SQL to extract data from a data warehouse.
• Demonstrable experience of using Power BI.

Desirable Criteria:

• Knowledge of Education/SEND.
• Recognised qualification in Power BI / SQL.
