    The Economic Development Service (EDS) has an instrumental role in the delivery of the One Coventry Plan and in particular the vision to promote the growth of a sustainable Coventry economy.

    To achieve our ambition of delivering sustainable growth through creating opportunities, the teams within EDS carry out a number of key activities including:

    • Monitoring and shaping policy
    • Identifying and delivering investment opportunities and projects
    • Delivering the Council’s inward investment offer and selling Coventry around the world as a place to do business
    • Providing a business support and investment programme; and
    • Managing external funding programmes.

    The benefits of these services aim to meet the needs of local businesses and industry across all sectors, international businesses seeking to invest and local residents through jobs and growth.  

    The team has a strong track record of success including:

    • Delivering hundreds of millions of pounds in external funding from European and UK Government sources
    • Securing funding for and providing project delivery of the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC), and supporting Coventry’s plans for a Gigafactory
    • Attracting major investors to the City through the promotion of opportunities to a national and global audience; and
    • Awarding grants to local SMEs to help them to grow and create jobs

    We are looking for a Business Energy Advisor to join Coventry City Council to deliver the Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) programme, which supports businesses in Coventry and Warwickshire who want to save money on energy and maximise energy efficiencies.

    Within the role you would be a key member of the team, promoting and delivering the objectives and outputs supporting business to become more energy efficient, reducing both energy and costs. In this role, you would work directly with SMEs within Coventry and Warwickshire to improve their energy and resource efficiency.

    The Business Energy Advisor will need to carry out on-site energy and resource efficiency audits within SMEs to produce action plans, identifying potential energy-saving measures which will be presented to the business. Following the audit, an offering of financial support through capital grants will be administered to assist the SMEs to deliver the recommendations

    All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.

    Who are we looking for?

    We are looking for someone who has strong experience of working with businesses and has knowledge of environmental issues, including climate change, sustainable energy use, carbon reduction and management. You will also have experience in researching and interpreting complex relevant data, making recommendations, and preparing reports. An experience of business and stakeholder engagement with both internal and external parties is also essential. Standard and high intensity energy auditing experience is also highly desirable.

    You will have a high level of verbal and written communication skills and a proven record in consulting and negotiating with businesses.

    The successful candidate will also be expected to represent the BEAS programme at promotional events as required

    • Any relevant experience of undertaking on-site energy audits and delivering carbon savings through energy, water and waste efficiency.
    • Your passion for the environment and desire to shift towards a low carbon economy.
    • Your previous experience of business engagement and relationship management.
