Building Maintenance Surveyor
Salary: £32,061 to £37,280 per annum plus Level 3 Benefit Allowance of £2,278.
Grade: Grade 6, SCP 19 – 26
Contract: Full Time (37 hours per week), Permanent
Hastings Borough Council is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Building Maintenance Surveyor to join its Building Surveying Team and make a positive impact on the Council’s property portfolio.
In this role you can enjoy the flexibility of hybrid working, allowing you to work from home or at our seafront Hastings Office, or a combination of both. It should be noted that the position entails travel to our office and throughout the borough for regular site visits and meetings, that on occasion may be at short notice.
Purpose of the Job:
As a Building Surveying Technician with us, you'll play an important role in assisting the Principal Building Surveyor and Building Surveyor in delivering the Council's in-house building surveying function.
Your prime responsibility will be to effectively deliver a range of minor repair and cyclical maintenance activities, along with a variety of other small improvement and alteration works on a broad range of buildings, built assets, and infrastructure in the Council’s diverse non-housing, operational, amenity, commercial and public realm property portfolio.
Examples of Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out site inspections, measured surveys, and produce schedules of work and quotation documents for a variety of small maintenance and improvement works on the Council’s property portfolio and other built assets under its annual repairs & renewals programme. Monitor works to completion ensuring they are caried out in accordance with current health and safety regulations within the allocated budget and to the agreed standard and timescales.
- Issue works orders for responsive repairs using the Council’s term maintenance contractor’s minor works contract portal. Monitor works to completion ensuring they are within budget and to the agreed standard and timescales.
- Manage the council’s bus shelter annual reactive repair and replacement programme, ensuring that it is undertaken within the allocated budget and agreed timescales.
- Manage the periodic inspections and electrical circuit testing including certification, and general maintenance and reactive repairs to the Council’s public realm amenities and decorative lighting installations in accordance with statutory regulations.
- Manage the council’s street nameplate reactive repair and replacement programme ensuring that it is undertaken within the allocated budget and agreed timescales.
Some Essential Requirements:
- ONC or HNC in building construction, building surveying or civil engineering studies or a similar allied subjects at an equivalent level.
- Demonstrable experience in property maintenance, improvement, and alteration environment.
- Experience in obtaining quotations, job administration and completion of minor repair works projects including negotiation and agreement of final accounts.
- Good verbal communication and contract negotiation skills
- Current clean full UK Driver’s License and access to own vehicle for business use.
