We have a great opportunity at Test Valley Borough Council, a forward-thinking organisation with excellent employee satisfaction rates. If you’re an enthusiastic, self-motivated Building Control Surveyor, currently acting at Area/ Senior level, seeking a new role for 2026 this could be just the job for you.

With an established reputation within our community for delivering high quality services, you’ll play a key part in the delivery of this vital service. You will be aware of the challenges facing the profession and be willing to respond to these along with improving our market share and increase the potential for personal development for the whole team. The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the built environment is an urgent challenge and an important priority for the service; using your expertise you’ll be expected to make a valuable contribution to this.

As a Building Control Surveyor/ Senior Building Control Surveyor, you will be one of a team of technical surveyors providing guidance and advice on all building control matters.

This role is very varied and you will be involved in a wide range of projects including residential, commercial and mixed-use schemes. This also includes dealing with dangerous structures and attending other emergency incidents. We have a number of partnership working agreements that you will be involved with, so it is important to develop effective client relationships.

We are fully committed to training and developing our employees, and if appointed you will be expected to provide mentoring support to trainees as well as assisting colleagues, especially at Senior Building Control level.

We actively promote a good work/life balance including flexible working hours and some home working opportunities. We also promote flexibility in service delivery and use remote/mobile working technology. We also offer a competitive salary, with a starting salary dependent on your ability, and lease car or cash allowance options.

Other benefits include, payment of professional subscription, on-site cafe, free parking, discounted leisure facilities, generous holiday allowance and a defined benefits pension scheme.
