£14,499 to £14,969 per year for working 20 hours a week (pay award pending)

Erewash Borough Council is seeking a Building Control Support Officer to join our Building Control team during an exciting period of transformation. As we implement new systems and processes, your role will be vital in delivering high-quality administrative support that keeps our service running smoothly.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a hands-on role where your attention to detail and ability to follow procedures will shine. You’ll:

  • Respond to building control enquiries using approved guidance
  • Register applications and raise invoices accurately
  • Maintain and process records for site inspections
  • Produce reports using standard templates
  • Support Building Control Surveyors with administrative tasks
  • Measure and check submitted plans against set criteria
  • Liaise with agents, architects, and other stakeholders
  • Upload and manage documents in digital systems
  • Handle telephone and email queries professionally
  • Ensure financial processes are followed correctly

You will work with Microsoft Office and our Corporate Database System daily and help us transition to a new digital platform - so being tech-savvy and open to change is key.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is confident with data entry and digital record-keeping
  • Can follow multiple processes with accuracy and consistency
  • Adapts easily to new systems and changing procedures
  • Manages high workloads and meets deadlines
  • Stays resilient under pressure and shifting priorities
  • Has strong literacy, numeracy, and organisational skills
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Is willing to undertake relevant training (e.g. LABC Level 3 Technical Admin Support course)

Desirable experience includes:

  • Administrative support in building control or local government
  • Creating and processing invoices in line with financial regulations
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in administration or ICT
