BUILDING CONTROL OFFICER

Department: Building Control

Salary: Grade G - £39,152 to £42,839 per year (plus standby allowance)

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract Status: Permanent

Location: Long Eaton Town Hall, Derby Road, Long Eaton, Derbyshire, NG10 1HU

Erewash Borough Council is on the lookout for a knowledgeable and forward-thinking Building Control Officer to play a key role in delivering expert guidance across a broad range of domestic, commercial, and mixed-use developments.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Assessing building regulation applications and carrying out site inspections
• Contributing to safe, sustainable, and compliant developments across Erewash, Broxtowe, Mansfield, Ashfield and Gedling.
• Supporting demolition licensing and the dangerous structures response service
• Mentoring Assistant Building Control Officers and supporting professional development
• Participating in out-of-hours emergency standby on a rota basis

What We’re Looking For:

• Degree in Building Surveying (or equivalent relevant experience) or HNC/HND in construction and experience as a qualified Building Surveyor
• Ideally corporate membership or working towards corporate membership of:
• CABE, CIOB, or RICS
• Willingness (or ability) to achieve LABC Level 6 Competency through assessment and achieve level 2F validation with the Building Safety Regulator
• Understanding of the Building Act 1984 and the Building Regulations
• A collaborative mindset and commitment to maintaining high service standards

Your usual workplace will be the Town Hall in Long Eaton, but you’ll travel to other sites within our partner authorities when required.
