We have a fantastic opportunity available for a Bid Writer to join our proactive Commercialisation and Finance Support Team at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full time, 12-month fixed term contract.

As a Bid Writer, you will help us deliver vital services by helping to secure external funding and new business opportunities, which will support the Council’s strategic priorities.

You will research, write, and coordinate the preparation of high-quality funding bids, tenders, and grant applications across a broad range of service areas — helping Wokingham Borough Council to innovate, grow income streams, and deliver positive outcomes for our communities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identify and assess relevant funding opportunities from government, public sector bodies, and other grant-making organisations.
  • Lead the development of clear, persuasive, and well-structured funding bids and tender submissions.
  • Gather and interpret complex information from a range of stakeholders to support strong applications.
  • Monitor bid outcomes and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Council’s funding and procurement strategies.
  • Ensure bids align with the Council’s priorities and deliver value for money.

Candidate requirements:

We’re looking for someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator. You’ll need strong writing skills, an analytical mind, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Proven experience in bid writing, grant writing and commercial tender writing
  • Strong understanding of public sector procurement and funding mechanisms
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight timeframes
  • Excellent written communication and editing skills
