Barnsley Libraries serve as vibrant community and digital hubs, anchoring the council’s presence across various locations within the borough. We are dedicated to developing an exciting programme of events and activities designed to attract and engage both residents and visitors. Our libraries not only fulfil statutory functions but also serve as places of learning and culture, offering a diverse stock of books and other media.
We are proud that Barnsley Libraries have been nationally recognised through our National Portfolio status, awarded by Arts Council England from April 2023. We are one of only sixteen library services in the country to receive this prestigious recognition. Over the past two years, we have delivered innovative cultural experiences such as the Barnsley Book Festival and Library Lates, which include craft workshops, author talks, live performances, and bespoke artist commissions.
To continue delivering our high-quality public services, we are seeking a dedicated individual to join our Bibliographic Service as a Bibliographic & Requests Assistant. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the management of our stock of books and other media. Your duties will include receiving and cataloguing new stock, handling public requests for specific items within our catalogue, helping to source items beyond our collection, and managing withdrawn stock and disposal.
We are looking for team players with a keen eye for detail who can work flexibly to prioritise their workload based on the needs of the service. You must be able to work at a fast pace; a reasonable level of physical fitness is also required (to be able to lift and transfer stock items).
Barnsley Council is a high-performing organisation with clear and tangible ambitions for its residents, communities, and stakeholders. Our 2030 vision is for Barnsley to be the place of possibilities. If you believe this role is the right fit for you, please complete the online application form, detailing how you meet the criteria for the job.
