Dover District Council is the host Authority for the East Kent Audit Partnership. The succesful candidate will be employed by Dover District Council.

The East Kent Audit Partnership (EKAP) operates between Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone & Hythe, and Thanet councils.

The Internal Audit Service is provided to the councils by a single team of eight audit staff.

Dover District Council is the host Authority and are currently looking for an additional Auditor who can expect to work across the four councils within the partnership as well as working on assignments for PartnershipOne (formerly East Kent Services). A Local Government Review is currently underway and the number of authorities and breadth of audits the EKAP covers may change in the future.

    Who are we looking for?

To be the right candidate you should ideally have experience in local government internal audit in a partnership arrangement, coupled with a relevant auditing or accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT or IIA).

It is essential that you have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, have a ‘common sense’ approach and the ability to be tactful and diplomatic.

You will also need excellent ICT skills as you will need to be quick to learn new systems. You should be able to plan your own workload, be effective working remotely and acorss different partner sites, and work equally well on your own initiative as well as part of a team.

You will need to develop your understanding of the Global Internal Audit Standards for your work to comply with professional standards and the code of ethics. Travel between partner sites will also be required.

    The role

The work is project based and there is an agreed brief and time allocation for each individual assignment. This could be at any of the four council sites, including main council offices or satellite offices and depots.

Whilst you will have a “home” base, you can expect to work at all four authorities, for which a mileage allowance is applicable. Each assignment is allocated according to the best match between the skills and experience within the team and the requirements of the brief or area of expertise.

Each assignment requires the Auditor to understand the business focus, the audit role, the structure and formulation of the control environment, risk management and corporate governance requirements.

In exchange for your skills and professionalism we offer flexible working hours, great variety and a broad scope for a person with a naturally enquiring mind who is keen to see the best value for money achieved with public spending.
