    Sherbourne Fields is an ‘Outstanding’ all aged Special School catering for pupils with a broad spectrum of special educational needs. We have over 260 pupils and 170 employees who enjoy and benefit from our site, so we are looking to recruit a Groundsperson to help maintain and continue to improve our extensive school grounds for us all to enjoy.

    What is the job role?

    We are seeking someone who can appreciate and value our grounds; ensuring our outdoor spaces are vibrant, well maintained and engaging whilst under the direction of the School Business Manager and Premises Manager.

    Who are we looking for?

    As the school Groundsperson, you will be responsible for maintaining and caring for our well established and much loved outdoor spaces which include, gardens and other landscaped areas such as vegetable plots, a small orchard, a polytunnel and a greenhouse. In addition, you will manage our animal habitats: Apiary, an Avery, chicken coup, and rabbit enclosure. In return we will equip you with the necessary tools and continuous support to help you flourish and feel a valued part of the Sherbourne community.

    • An understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act

    • Good sound knowledge of a range of gardening equipment

    • Ability to plant and maintain various types of plants/trees/shrubs

    • Self-motivated and takes pride in his/her work

    • Attention to detail

    • Reliable and trustworthy

    • Has a common sense approach along with a ‘can do’ attitude

    • Is practical and approachable

    • Enjoys working outdoors in all weathers

    • Can prioritise workload to ensure grounds are maintained to a high standard

    • Has outstanding organisational skills

    • Can work part of a team and or individually

    • Physically fit

    • Able to perform general maintenance garden maintenance tasks
