About the Role

An opportunity has arisen within the Directorate for Environmental and Community Services for an Assistant Licensing and Enforcement Officer. Our Licensing team work to protect the safety of residents and visitors, whilst supporting businesses and licence holders to operate safely and efficiently.

The primary purpose of this post is to support the delivery of the full range of licensing functions, ensuring compliance with national legislation, guidance and local policies. As an Assistant Licensing and Enforcement Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring that the council meets its statutory obligations, taking regulatory and enforcement action where requirements are not met as well as offering advice and guidance where needed.

About You

Experience of working in a regulatory field and partnership working in resolving issues are key.

You will be working with our statutory partners, licensed premises & taxi/ private hire trades, other regulating bodies and Erewash Community Safety Partnership to improve services to customers and ensure a safe and welcoming borough to live, work and visit.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have and demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

  • Experience of working in a regulatory team with an enforcing authority preferably dealing with licensing enforcement
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience of processing licensing applications or equivalent
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with information technology systems

Key Responsibilities

This is an interesting and varied role, and the main responsibilities include:

  • Check that applications are correctly completed and legally valid before being processed and ensure renewal letters are sent out in-line with licence conditions.
  • Answer enquiries and complaints from the public and local traders ensuring that accurate information is given out.
  • Organise events so that local businesses, officers and members can be made aware of their licensing responsibilities.
  • Collate data to ensure statutory returns are completed timely.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the office administration, ordering materials, postal duties, preparing and producing and chasing invoices.
  • Support licensing officers to undertake routine checks of vehicles and premises to help assess whether a licence should be granted and the compliance with licence conditions.
  • When required arrange and invigilate the council’s taxi and private hire knowledge test.
