The Role

Assistant Engineer – Build Your Career While Shaping Lancaster’s Future

Join our multi award-winning Engineering team and kick-start your career in civil engineering. Lancaster City Council is looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Engineer to help deliver ambitious projects that will transform our district.

As part of our expanding team, you’ll work on high-profile public realm and highway schemes, as well as coastal and drainage projects that protect communities and enhance our environment. You’ll also gain hands-on experience while studying on a day-release basis to achieve Civil Engineering qualifications – a fantastic opportunity to learn and earn.

What we’re looking for:

  • A keen interest in civil engineering and a commitment to learning.
  • Competence in AutoCAD and topographical surveying applications is desirable.
  • Ability to work flexibly, prioritise workloads, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision (appropriate to the level of experience)

What you’ll do:

  • Assist with the design of projects using computer drawing applications.
  • Help produce contract documents and supervise construction work.
  • Liaise with colleagues, external agencies, and the public to solve complex challenges.
