    Who we are

    The Transport Team at St Helens Borough Council run a diverse fleet of vehicles, from cars and car derived vans to 32t GVW HGV’s. Our Team of 12 technicians inspect, service, maintain and repair a fleet of approaching 200 vehicles including diesel, electric and the first hydrogen RCV in the UK, as well as inspecting, servicing and repairing a large amount of Amenity horticultural and Grounds Maintenance plant and machinery. The Authority currently has 70 vehicles on its Operator licence with provision for up to 90. We are also an authorised examiner for motor vehicle testing for class 4 & 7 vehicles.


    Join our team

    We are seeking an ambitious individual with a desire to gain HGV Level 3 Engineering status, while learning all aspects of vehicle & plant maintenance, servicing and repair as well as attending college on one day per week during term time. The successful applicant must be able to get to and from his/her place of work at Hardshaw Brook Depot St Helens and will work shifts between 6 am and 8pm on weekdays. They will work as part of a team on wide ranging items of plant, machinery and vehicles.

    The post will be a 36-month fixed term position with the possibility of a 3-month extension to reach the ‘End Point Assessment’ if necessary.
