Are you ready to play a key role in delivering and supporting critical Council infrastructure and applications? As an Applications Packaging and Deployment Engineer, you’ll be responsible for packaging, releasing, and deploying software across the organization, ensuring compliance, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
A core part of your role will be to own and maintain the Council’s central register of applications keeping it accurate, up to date, and coordinating with stakeholders to validate requirements, versioning, and licensing.
You’ll work under procedural control, sometimes supervising less senior team members, and may be required to provide out-of-hours support.
Key Responsibilities
- Package applications using established workflows and deployment tools, primarily Microsoft Intune.
- Oversee technical dependencies, compliance, and lifecycle management for Council services.
- Test, document, and coordinate new releases and deployments, including technical release notes and training.
- Maintain and regularly update the master list of applications (central register), ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with IT management, business units, and external partners to deliver high-quality services.
- Support infrastructure upgrades, patch management, and data cleansing.
- Promote best practices in quality assurance, health & safety, equality, and safeguarding.
The Ideal Candidate
- Extensive experience delivering service support for IT specializations.
- Demonstrable technical experience in application packaging and deployment using Microsoft Intune.
- Strong skills in maintaining technical documentation to a high standard.
- Good English literacy and numeracy skills, especially for customer-facing roles.
- Ability to analyse and evaluate technical situations, troubleshoot issues, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Additional Information
- Desirable certifications: Microsoft 365 Endpoint Administrator, Security/Compliance credentials.
- Experience with installer formats (MSI, EXE, MSIX, Intune wrapper), repackaging tools, scripting (PowerShell, VB), and version control is advantageous.
