About the team

The General Applications Team at Hertfordshire County Council is responsible for supporting, developing and providing integration for a wide range of bespoke and third party applications. We ensure minimal disruption by promptly resolving incidents and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.

Our key responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving application issues, documenting performance, and managing incidents with third-party suppliers. We also contribute to project meetings.

The Application Engineer role at Hertfordshire County Council is pivotal in supporting and managing critical applications.

The role requires diagnosing and resolving application issues, documenting performance, and managing incidents with third-party suppliers

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support for critical applications
  • Collaborating with Project Managers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
  • Producing technical support documentation
  • Reacting quickly to reported incidents following standard procedures

About you

Essential:

  • Experience in supporting and maintaining software in a live environment: You should have a proven track record of maintaining and supporting complex software applications in a live environment
  • Proficiency with SQL databases: You should have an understanding of SQL databases and be able to query them effectively
  • Application lifecycle management: You should have experience managing the entire lifecycle of applications, from development to deployment and maintenance
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail: Strong analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail are essential for diagnosing and resolving application issues
  • Collaboration and communication: Strong communication skills to work effectively with Project Managers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles: Awareness of cybersecurity best practices to ensure the security and integrity of applications.

Desirable:

  • Experience with integration options: Knowledge of various integration methods
  • Awareness of accessibility standards: Understanding and implementing accessibility standards to ensure applications are usable by all individuals
  • Awareness of Oracle databases
  • Awareness of SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Knowledge of scripting languages
