Ready to kick-start your career in AI and automation while making a real difference to local services?

    Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a motivated and curious individual who is keen to begin a career in digital services, with a particular interest in artificial intelligence and automation.

You'll be joining our Digital Services team, working closely with experienced colleagues to help improve how the council delivers services through smarter, more efficient digital solutions.

This role would suit someone who enjoys problem solving, has a strong attention to detail, and is eager to learn new technologies. You don't need to be an expert - we're looking for potential, enthusiasm and a willingness to develop your skills in a supportive environment.

You'll be working with a wide range of people across the organisation, so being approachable, collaborative and able to communicate clearly is important.

    What will the role involve?

As a Digital Services AI and Automation Apprentice, you'll support the design and delivery of digital improvements across the council.

This will include helping to analyse business processes, identify opportunities for automation, and support the development of AI-enabled and automated solutions. You'll work with colleagues and suppliers to explore the best tools and approaches, using low-code and no-code technologies where appropriate.

You'll also help create clear documentation and guidance, support user adoption through demonstrations or training, and monitor how solutions are performing in practice.

The role is hybrid, with a mix of home working and office-based working in Hailsham, East Sussex. You'll be part of a collaborative team environment with opportunities to learn, develop and contribute to meaningful digital transformation projects.

What skills, knowledge and abilities do you require for the role?

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate a blend of technical interest, problem-solving ability and strong personal skills:

    • A good standard of education, including GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent), and ideally A-levels or further study
    • An interest in digital technology, with some experience or awareness of development tools or technologies
    • Understanding (or willingness to learn) about security best practices and protecting data
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think logically in a technical environment
    • Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks effectively
    • Willingness to learn new skills quickly and adapt to new tools and ways of working
    • Strong communication skills, including a good command of spoken English
    • A friendly and positive approach when working with colleagues and customers

    What do we offer?

    • Competitive salary & pension scheme.
    • Incremental progression subject to satisfactory performance.
    • A friendly, supportive team.
    • Opportunities for continuing professional development.
    • Hybrid working.
