Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service (DACES) is looking to recruit suitably qualified and experienced tutors to work in our centres across Derbyshire and online. We are particularly keen to hear from people who can teach any of the following subject areas.

  • Family learning – Courses which equip parents and carers to support their children’s learning.
  • Employability – Courses which provide adult learners with the skills needed to get into work, education, training or self-employment or to progress in their current job.
  • Supported learning – Courses for adults with learning disabilities.
  • Digital skills – Courses to improve IT skills needed for life or work including online safety and supporting families with safe IT use, essential digital skills and how to use digital devices.
  • Mental Health First Aid – Courses which provide the skills and knowledge needed to support others with their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Building stronger communities – Courses which provide the skills to work/support/create opportunities within the local community.
  • Cookery – Courses which provide the skills to make healthy and budget aware meals and snacks

Once appointed to the tutor pool, tutors can build a working pattern to suit on a course-by-course basis. This makes the role ideal for both those who only want to work a few hours a week and those who want to build a more substantive role and timetable of classes.

We have centres for course delivery in the following areas including outreach throughout Derbyshire. At interview you will be asked which areas you would be willing to travel to

  • Glossop
  • Fairfield
  • Clay Cross
  • Chesterfield
  • Bolsover
  • Cotmanhay
  • Swadlincote

Applicants should:

  • Hold an adult teaching qualification and a recognised subject specialist qualification.
  • Have experience of work with adults and/or young people.
  • Have experience of delivering subject content.
  • Be able to maintain engagement, interaction and motivation of learners.
  • Be committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and British Values.
