About the role

Crawley is a dynamic and diverse town, known for its strong sense of community and commitment to excellence. As an employer, we offer a supportive and collaborative work environment where your contributions are valued, and your professional growth is encouraged. Our team is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of our residents, and we believe that every employee plays a crucial role in achieving this goal.

Based at various hubs and outreach in the community, Crawley Borough Council and their Employ Crawley service offer employment information, advice and guidance to our residents. We are looking to recruit an Adult Employment Support Advisor to work with Crawley’s adult residents on a two-year fixed term contract, to be based at Crawley Town Hall and various outreach locations in the community.

This role supports Crawley residents by providing meaningful careers advice and access to employment support, job seeking and skills training. The role involves coaching, mentoring and tailoring provision to support each person’s individual needs. You will help address any complex barriers to employment, signpost to specialist organisations and discuss alternative career pathways.

To be successful you will have:

  • a Level 2 IAG Qualification (or a willingness to work towards this) or relevant experience
  • working knowledge of Crawley’s employment and skills landscape and key local support organisations
  • the skills and ability to build a strong rapport with a diverse range of Crawley residents
  • you should be comfortable with lone working as well as being able to work effectively as part of a team
  • you will be confident at building excellent working relationships with internal and external partners
  • you will be social media confident with the ability to produce regular content for social media platforms

Crawley Borough Council is a great place to work, with a thriving business district and excellent transport connections including nearby Gatwick Airport. We are based in our modern Town Hall which opened in 2023 and is located a short walk from the town centre and railway station.

We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible, as we may close this advert before the stated closing date if enough applications are received.

Additional information

Fixed term contract for 2 years.

This is a 30 hours per week part time post, working Monday to Thursday.

Satisfactory clearance of a Basic Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS) is a condition of employment.

Due to the amount of travel required across various locations within the borough, a driving licence would be advantageous.

Employee benefits

We offer a generous employee benefits package, with a range of discounts, benefits and wellbeing incentives to suit everyone.

Our way of working

Our shared values and behaviours reflect the special nature of our council. We encourage all colleagues to put them into practice, whatever job they do. Take a look to see if we are the perfect match.

Safer recruitment

Crawley Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
