The role.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Activities, Operations and Finance Officer to join our Seafront and Open Spaces Team. The Seafront and Open Spaces Team are responsible for the day to day running and strategic management of all Seafronts, Parks and Open Spaces in North Somerset.
In this role, you will be required to support the processing, facilitation, delivery and promotion of Seafront and Open Spaces activity across all open spaces managed within the service using specialist experience and knowledge. Roles at this level may work unsupervised much of the time within defined procedures but with readily available advice from managers. The position will be required to work anti-social hours including regular weekend shifts.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsible for the processing, facilitation, delivery and promotion of a variety of activities to ensure public safety, council priorities and legislative requirements.
- Provide information, support and advice to colleagues related to activities, operations and finance management.
- Guide and organise the work of front-line staff in the collection of monies and the provision of information to the public, visitors and other service users.
- Ensure compliance with council policy and procedure in relation to the collection and management of financial transactions.
- Assist colleagues in the procurement of goods and services within approved council and legislative requirements whilst ensuring efficient use of adherence to agreed budgets.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
This position is currently based at our Seafront Office in Weston-super-Mare.
Work style.
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Fixed Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 4+ days in the office.
- Spends most or all of their time in the office, due to nature of the work but can be for reasons such as unsuitable home working conditions or a desire for separation of home and work life.
- The office remains a shared space with cultural encouragement for clear desk policies.
About you.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about ensuring North Somerset is a great place to work, live or visit by facilitating multiple uses across its sites and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria:
- NVQ level 3 qualification in customer service or equivalent practical work experience within the subject area to demonstrate technically specific skills relating to the appropriate area of work.
- Practical work experience to give through understanding of the processes and practices required to deliver the service.
- Ability to interact with businesses, colleagues and engage with the general public.
- Awareness and general understanding of the service area technical protocols, regulations and relevant legislation for licencing, health and safety and other processes to ensure compliance.
Desirable criteria:
- Ability to work without close supervision and recognise professional boundaries to seek advice when appropriate.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office packages efficiently.
