ROLE OF THE JOB

The Sports Development Team are delighted to host the Northumberland Active Through Football Programme with a clear focus on helping people become more physically active in the communities of Ashington, Newbiggin and Berwick through a range of sporting and physical activity initiatives for over 16’s and adults.

The successful candidate will be skilled in engaging with communities to identify and be sensitive to barriers to participation and find realistic solutions to them which lead to sustainable activity. Budget control, reporting to the funders, staff management, ensuring sessions are safe, workforce development and community engagement are all key duties which make this a diverse and highly rewarding job.

The team has well established partnerships in the target communities and the successful candidate will quickly become part of those networks from which existing sessions can be sustained and new ones developed.

This position is offered on a Fixed Term basis until 29/02/2028.


REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

  • The postholder needs to have strong communication skills both in person and electronically. They will be highly self-motivated, organised and passionate about working with hard-to-reach groups and communities.
  • They will inspire and motivate others to support activity and to get involved either as participants or leaders.
  • Operationally the officer will conduct risk assessments, manage staff, budget monitoring, reporting of KPIs to funders, planning and hosting meetings, producing marketing materials, supporting funding bids and any other tasks to develop sustainable community activity.
  • They will need to be able to travel between communities for which access to a car is required.
  • Whilst not essential, the ability to deliver any sporting session will be desirable.
