The induction has been amazing for me. I feel I’ve been nurtured. It’s been nothing but beneficial for me especially as I did not have a statutory children’s social work experience. The training has helped fill in more knowledge around the practice I didn’t necessarily have at university. There have been so many good aspects, such as going to the local court to speak with the judges and visiting the family hubs and getting more understanding of what’s out there for our families. I’ve loved being part of a cohort, and now being in the office with my peers I feel we’re part of a group who is there for each other.
\n
It’s been lovely to feel supported and have opportunities to learn so much. I’ve seen that there is a genuine want from the Practice Development Hub to see us succeed and get the most from it.
\n
Having an assessor separate to my team, gives me reassurance there’s a safe space to discuss things, someone who is neutral and provides that additional support. I know I have someone who is there for me.
\n
My team and the academy have guided and supported me. But I have also been trusted and encouraged to get out of my comfort zone and embrace the learning opportunities that come up”.
\n

\n
Our recent cohort of NQSW’s highlighted several aspects they found particularly rewarding about joining us at Barnsley’s Social Work Academy:
\n
“Meeting all management – they are all lovely”
\n
“Getting training and court experience – Thank you”
\n
“Being part of the NQSW team”
\n
“The people I’ve met and the knowledge I have learnt from other professionals”
\n
“Meeting new people and building relationships”
\n
“Having guest speakers, learning about difference service, referral process and thresholds”.
\n

\n
How do we sum up Barnsley Council?
\n

\n
In Barnsley, our Stronger Together practice model supports our belief in working collaboratively with our families, with relationship based practice underpinning everything we do.
