Social Worker - Short Break Service

<h5>Context </h5>Following the Mayoral election in May 2025 this new role of Mayor’s Office Manager sits within the newly created Office of the Mayor. Working with the newly appointed Chief of Staff, Special Adviser and Senior Caseworker this role directly supports the Mayor by providing high level support and advice, prioritising, co-ordinating and supporting the Mayor’s activities, leading decision making on the Mayor’s attendance at events and maintaining the Mayor’s personal relationships with stakeholders. About the Post:
Newsome Avenue provides residential overnight short breaks to children and young people with disabilities; learning disabilities, complex health needs, Autism, ADHD and associated behaviours. The home works alongside other short break service providers and professional agencies to meet the assessed needs of the children and young people.

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, energetic and motivated person who is able to meet the physical and emotionally demanding role of a Senior Residential Support Worker.
The successful applicant will have experience of working in a residential setting with children and young people with disabilities/complex needs and/or vulnerable adults with complex needs/ disabilities. The successful applicant will need to evidence experience of direct work in a residential setting with young people.
This Senior post is an exciting opportunity for an experienced children’s Residential Support Worker to take on increased responsibility such as shift management and staff support.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate skills in working as part of a team as well as working on their own initiative.&nbsp;
The successful applicant will hold a relevant Level 3 qualification.
The successful applicant will work on a rota basis including weekends and Bank Holidays

Senior Residential Support Worker

A Return Interview is an opportunity for children and young people to talk to someone independent (from where they live) about the reasons they were reported missing, where they have been, who they have been with and what they were doing. This is important to identify if the young person has been at risk during the time they were missing or are vulnerable to harm in any way and identify any support they might need to help keep them or others safe. The role will involve making referrals for support into other services and some out of Borough travel to ensure young people are offered interview in person.
Local authorities have a statutory duty to offer all young people who have been reported as missing to the police a return interview; interviews should be offered within 72 hours of them being returned ‘home’ or to a place of safety.
The reason for the 72-hour timescale is that, although not all missing young people are at risk of harm, until they have had the opportunity to discuss what happened and why, this may not be known.
Barnsley’s Targeted Youth Support Service are looking to recruit a new team member to join an existing and well established team of Return Home Interview Officers. Our ideal candidate would be someone who is passionate about working with young people who may be vulnerable, someone with tenacity and who has a passion and personality for engaging with young people who may be reluctant to service involvement as part of Barnsley’s multi agency safeguarding procedures.

What you’ll need
To join us, you’ll need be educated to A- level or equivalent experience. You will have relevant experience of planning events, project management or contract management. &nbsp;You’ll be able to set up processes and systems that allow good tracking of information and reporting and work logically across a number of competing priorities.&nbsp;

What you’ll need
To join us, you’ll need be educated to degree level or equivalent. You will have relevant experience of grant making or commissioning, working with the voluntary sector and developing meaningful partnerships and demonstrating impact of project investment. You’ll bring to the role a sound understanding of the legislative and policy framework around providing services to children, families and young people.&nbsp;
Naturally, you’ll demonstrate what it takes to communicate at service manager or equivalent level of operational management in a large agency or organisation relevant to the provision of services for children, young people, families and adults. Crucially, you are determined to anticipate and plan for future developments and options and demonstrate a passion for improving outcomes.
