Our Housing Options and Solutions team plays a vital frontline role, providing practical support, expert advice and timely interventions to help people remain in their homes or secure alternative accommodation when they need it most.
As a Housing Reviews and Visiting Officer, you’ll be part of a dedicated and compassionate team working directly with residents across the Sevenoaks District. Your work will help prevent homelessness, support some of our most vulnerable residents, and ensure the Council meets its legal duties under housing legislation.
Everything you need to know:
This is a varied and rewarding role that combines casework, investigation, and extensive face-to-face work with customers in their homes and other settings, including hospitals. Based at the Council Offices in Sevenoaks, you’ll travel widely across the district carrying out visits, gathering information, and providing practical housing advice.
What you will be doing:
<ul>
<li>Assisting with homelessness reviews under Section 202 of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, including carrying out investigations and gathering evidence.</li>
<li>Keeping applicants informed of progress on their homelessness reviews within statutory timescales.</li>
<li>Carrying out accommodation suitability and property condition assessments, considering affordability, overcrowding, location, and any risk of violence.</li>
<li>Visiting customers in a range of settings, including hospitals, to support safe and timely discharge planning.</li>
<li>Providing high-quality housing advice, mediation and realistic housing options to individuals and families at risk of homelessness.</li>
<li>Supporting Housing Advice Officers by verifying applicant details, recording findings from visits, and making clear recommendations.</li>
<li>Maintaining accurate, timely case notes and records on Council databases.</li>
<li>Identifying safeguarding concerns and ensuring vulnerable adults and children are referred to the right services at the right time.</li>
<li>Detecting and reporting suspected fraud and liaising with internal teams such as Benefits, Legal and Fraud.</li>

The Regulatory Services Partnership (RSP) hosted by Merton Council is one of the largest Environmental Health Services in London, with the Food and Safety Team responsible for overseeing more than 6,000 food businesses in Merton, Richmond and Wandsworth. The area covered is diverse in nature and includes a variety of high profile and interesting venues, such as Wimbledon Tennis, AFC Wimbledon, Twickenham Rugby, Battersea Power Station, New Covent Garden and Hampton Court Flower Show.
We have an exciting opportunity for talented and enthusiastic qualified professionals to join our team of dedicated Food and Health and Safety officers to deliver the food safety, health and safety and infectious disease function across the RSP boroughs.
As an authorised officer you will manage and deliver food hygiene and standards inspections of all premises type, including approved food premises. You will investigate complaints and accidents, using your knowledge, skills and experience, and applying the necessary behaviours.
You will mentor and supervise technical staff, sharing your knowledge and experience.

<li>We work with children who are at risk of offending or who have already offended to reduce the chances they will offend again and support them achieve their full potential.</li>
<li>In your role, you will have to write an assessment of the child and co-produce and intervention plan with them. All your work with the child has to be timely recorded.&nbsp;There is a lot of case management and record keeping is an essential part of our job.</li>
<li>We have a duty to safeguard our children whilst also protecting the public: safety assessments, safety management and safeguarding and welfare of the children we work with is an essential aspect of our role.</li>
<li>We work in a multi-agency team and context: we support children as part of a network so you must be good communicating with others to overcome barriers and achieve better outcomes for our children.</li>
<li>Our role involves adherence to many pieces of legislation, frameworks, and guidance which you will have to learn and become familiar with to be able to deliver your role.</li>

Candidate Requirements
<ul>
<li>There is an essential requirement for this role to have aqualification in Social Work, Probation Services or Professional Certificate in Effective Practice (PCEP). Consideration for candidates without qualification will only be on the basis of them being currently employed as a youth justice worker in another service and to have held that post for a minimum of 6 months. For this particular role, candidates with a Teaching Qualification will also be considered, as well as anyone who has current experience of working with children in schools.&nbsp; Candidates that do not meet this essential requirement will not be shortlisted.&nbsp;</li>
<li>You are knowledgable about the Child First framework, trauma informed approaches. It is also desireable that you have knowledge of relevant criminal youth justice legislation, National Standards for Children in Youth Justice and Youth Justice Board best practice guidance.&nbsp;</li>
<li>You are familiar with Restorative Justice and the support that victims of crime need.</li>
<li>You can relate and engage with children and families, who have often experienced trauma.</li>
<li>You have experience of working with partners to improve outcomes for children.</li>
<li>You are able to write in an analytical and critical way, interpreting and analysing facts to produce reports and assessments for different audiences.</li>
<li>You will need to work to tight deadlines, in a fast paced, varied and rapidly changing environment and keep accurate and timely records.</li>

🌟 Join Assessment and Discharge Team in Adult Social Care 🌟 We’re recruiting a qualified social worker to work in our established Community Hospital and Community Support Bed Assessment and Discharge Team. Our 6 Community Hospitals and 3 Community Support Beds offer short-term assessment and reablement/rehabilitation to people across Derbyshire. They help people to regain confidence and maximise their independence, in order to return home wherever possible. They are used to support people leaving hospital, requiring an urgent community response or who would benefit from reablement in a bedded care setting (this is Derbyshire’s ‘Pathway 2’/intermediate care service). These sites are supported by skilled multi-disciplinary teams from health and social care. You would be working with a team of other professionals to contribute to goal setting and discharge planning, complete care act assessments and support plans, as well as supporting people within the Mental Capacity Act and making safeguarding personal. The services are going through an exciting period of change over 2025-2026. We’re looking for an innovative leader who is passionate about improving services for people in Derbyshire. As part of improving integration between health and social care, we are transitioning the service to deliver support within a new partnership between Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS and we expect these roles transition across into this Partnership at some point in 2026.
