This role is restricted to female applicants only.

This is in accordance with Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010, which allows a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) where being female is essential for the effective performance of this support worker role

Our justification for this GOR is to uphold the dignity, privacy and personal safety of our female service users, aligning directly with the Care Quality Commission fundamental standards,

Specifically.

Regulation 9, Person Centre Care; Ensuring care and treatment are appropriate, meet individual service user needs and reflect personal preferences. For some of our female service users receiving support from a female worker is a fundamental and documented personal need for their comfort and well-being.

Regulation 10. Dignity and Respect; This regulation recognises the right of service users to request staff of a specified gender, sex for reasons of personal care, safety or deeply held beliefs. Where a service users’ dignity or privacy would be compromised by male staff, female only GOR directly supports this vital standard.

The Supported Living Service enables and supports adults with learning disabilities and complex needs in their own homes. Our approach is person centred and our aim is to promote positive fulfilling lives for service users. Our teams are passionate and ambitious for the adults, families and communities we support as we continue to build on our progress and put people firmly at the centre of our care.

Working with person centred support plans and risk assessments our Supported Living Workers provide direct personal care using safer people handling equipment where assessed. The role can include supporting service users to manage their challenging behaviour, whilst always maintaining and promoting their independence.
