Job Status: This opportunity is currently being offered on a fixed term contract basis of 2 years; however, if budgets allow the contract length may be extended and/or become permanent, though this is not guaranteed. Medway Educational Psychology Service is seeking an enthusiastic, reflective and motivated Assistant Educational Psychologist to join our dynamic and supportive team.

This is an exciting opportunity for graduates who are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people and who are intending to pursue professional training in Educational Psychology. Working alongside qualified Educational Psychologists, you will gain valuable experience across a wide range of educational psychology activities, developing the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for future doctoral training.

What will you be doing?

Under the guidance and supervision of qualified Educational Psychologists, you will:

  • Support psychological assessment activities through observations, consultations and direct work with children and young people.
  • Gather and analyse information to understand strengths, needs and barriers to learning and participation.
  • Assist with the development of recommendations and written reports for schools, families and professionals.
  • Deliver evidence-informed interventions to individuals and small groups.
  • Work collaboratively with families, schools and multi-agency partners to promote positive outcomes.
  • Contribute to research, evaluation and project work across the service.
  • Support a range of training, workshops and professional development activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to service monitoring and evaluation.
  • Develop your own understanding of applied psychology, education and child development in preparation for professional Educational Psychology training.


What are we looking for?

We are keen to hear from applicants who have:

Essential

  • An Honours Degree in Psychology (normally 2:1 or above) that confers eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership/Registration with the British Psychological Society.
  • Experience of working with children, young people and/or families, particularly those who may be vulnerable or have additional needs, for at least 1 year.
  • Experience of working collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An understanding of child development and inclusion.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing demands.
  • A clear intention to pursue a career in Educational Psychology.


Desirable

  • Experience in education, health, social care or community settings.
  • Experience of research, data analysis or project work.
  • Knowledge of SEND legislation and inclusive practice.
  • An emerging understanding of how psychology can be applied to support children and young people.
