The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Business Support Officer to join our Children’s Business Support Team. The Business Support Team are responsible for providing back-office administration support to the Children’s Social Care Teams.

In this role, you will contribute to the effective running of services by delivering high-quality administrative support and customer support, making best use of digital tools and standardised processes. The postholder is required to carry out a range of services as part of a team delivering administrative, specialist business, digital and telephony support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver agreed administrative support to council services in accordance with the agreed processes, and following guidance from the supervisor or manager.
  • Input data with speed and accuracy, ensuring any errors or amendments are identified and updated accordingly
  • Ensure completion of allocated work, enquiries and customer feedback, alerting supervisors or the manager to anything that will not meet agreed deadlines and agree solutions to minimise any impact on service delivery.
  • Maintain required levels of service quality in line with client and customer expectations and Key Performance Indicator targets

Work Style

At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:

  • 2-3 days in the office
  • Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
  • Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.

About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about customer care, who likes to work independently and resolve problems and queries, and who possesses the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria:

  • NVQ Level 2 in literacy and numeracy
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload effectively
  • Customer Service skills
  • Communicate with colleagues and customers positively and professionally

Desirable Criteria:

  • NVQ level 2 units or equivalent practical work experience to achieve the qualification in skills relating to the service area.
  • Business Awareness, understands the role of others in relation to their impact on own role and recognises how decisions made in other areas can impact on theirs.
