
Trade Apprentice Electrician
Ashfield District Council has an exciting opportunity for a Repairs and Maintenance Apprentice (Electrician) to join our Housing Operations Team.
We are seeking motivated, enthusiastic individuals who are keen to begin a career in the electrical trade through apprenticeship programme. The successful candidate will be reliable, punctual, eager to learn, able to follow instructions, and committed to developing new skills. Strong communication and organisational skills, together with the ability to work effectively as part of a team, are essential.
Working across our housing properties throughout the Ashfield District, you will learn alongside experienced trade professionals and gain valuable hands-on experience in all aspects of electrical installation and maintenance. The role will involve working outdoors in all weather conditions.
A corporate uniform will be provided.
Training
The successful candidate will undertake college-based training with West Nottinghamshire College (Station Park Campus) and must be able to attend all required training sessions.
Eligibility
This apprenticeship is designed for individuals who are looking to develop their skills and gain a recognised Level 3 qualification in the electrical trade.
Applicants must have:
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills) in English and Mathematics
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above in at least one Science subject, or an equivalent qualification
Please note: Applicants who already hold a Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation, or an equivalent Level 3 electrician qualification, are not eligible for this apprenticeship and should not apply.

Selection Process
The recruitment process consists of two stages:
- Shortlisted candidates will need to attend the Civic Centre Mansfield to undertake an aptitude test and colour-blindness test with the college. This session will be held on Monday 10th August 2026 from 9-4pm at the Civic Centre, Chesterfield Road South, Mansfield, NG19 7BH
- Candidates who successfully pass both assessment elements will be invited to attend a formal interview. Interview date: 18th August 2026 at the Northern Depot, Ashfield District Council, Station Road, Sutton in Ashfield, NG17 5HB
