Good Growth

Good Growth is responsible for delivering and implementing the Mayor’s environment, transport and economic strategies and for the effective implementation of the London Plan. The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.

About the team

The City+ Place Unit is a jointly functioning team working across the GLA Planning and Regeneration and TfL Spatial Planning, to support delivery of good growth - development that is socially and economically inclusive and environmentally sustainable - through integrated place-based working.

Working across the wider GLA Group, the City + Place Unit seeks to unlock good growth through evidence-based prioritisation, effective case making, co-ordinated investment and continued engagement with government, boroughs, private sector and local communities.

About the role

As Senior Project Officer working in the City + Place Unit you will enable successful, inclusive and sustainable places of high quality for the benefit of all Londoners.

You will provide project management in the delivery of place-based regeneration projects, strategies and programmes; leading on the preparation and delivery of projects; and providing project management as and when required.

This role provides a unique opportunity for a talented individual with an ability to combine strategic thinking with practical capabilities.

What your day will look like

You will:

  • Work in close partnership with London Boroughs and other key partners, leading on and enabling the delivery of projects and actions through collaboration, encouragement and advice, maintaining throughout a strong focus on good place–shaping and regeneration.
  • Procure consultants and prepare contract specifications and grant award documentation to delivery partners.
  • Monitor delivery partners and track project activities and milestones against targets, take ownership and management of project issues; take follow up or remedial actions if required.
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring project and programme financial information such as monitoring spend against budget.
  • Develop successful networks within the organisation and with external partners to promote good practice across regeneration.
  • Provide advice, support and guidance in terms of place making, design quality management, physical and economic regeneration and development and urban space management to senior colleagues in the GLA across the GLA Group and to external delivery partners and sponsors.
  • Realise the benefits of London’s diversity by promoting and enabling equality of opportunities, and promoting the diverse needs and aspirations of London’s communities.

Skills, knowledge and experience

To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience of delivering large projects in complex organisations.
  • Strong understanding of the planning and political context of London including Economic Development, Planning, Regeneration, Place-making and design quality management.
  • Evidence of using strategic analytical skills to support project delivery, including using performance management frameworks to implement and monitor successful delivery.
  • Well-developed IT skills and experience of using project management, financial management and design software packages

Benefits

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

In addition to a good salary package, you will be paid every four weeks, providing frequent salary payments. We also offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.
