About the role:

‘’We are looking for a motivated and skilled Radiographer to join our Post-Mortem CT (PMCT) Imaging Service. This is a unique opportunity to work within a specialist forensic environment, delivering high-quality imaging services that support coronial and forensic investigations.

You will play a key role in performing PMCT scans on deceased individuals, supporting the daily running of the service, and deputising for the Lead Radiographer when required. The role offers exposure to complex and varied cases, including forensic, trauma, and major incident work.’’

Key responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform Post-Mortem Computed Tomography (PMCT) examinations in accordance with national standards, professional guidance and local protocols.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Post-Mortem Imaging Service, ensuring a safe, efficient and compliant service is maintained.
  • Deputise for the Lead Radiographer during periods of absence, including annual leave, providing operational support and professional advice as required.
  • Work collaboratively with Coroners, Police, Pathologists, Radiologists, Anatomical Pathology Technologists (APTs) and other stakeholders to support post-mortem investigations and service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records and imaging data using PACS and Civica systems, ensuring compliance with GDPR and data protection requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including IRR17, Human Tissue Act 2004, Health & Safety regulations and local policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance programmes, clinical audits, risk management activities and service improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with the safe movement and handling of deceased individuals in accordance with manual handling regulations and local procedures.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and support the management of a varied caseload including forensic, trauma and major incident cases.
Specific Projects and Initiatives
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative post-mortem imaging practices, including the use of artificial intelligence, automation and emerging technologies.
  • Participate in research projects and collaborate with academic institutions, professional bodies and specialist centres to advance forensic imaging practice.
  • Assist in the review and development of standard operating procedures, imaging protocols and service improvement programmes.
  • Contribute to education and training activities for radiographers, pathologists, APTs and other healthcare and forensic professionals.
  • Participate in Disaster Victim Identification (DVI), mass fatality and CBRNe preparedness training to support major incident response capability.
Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities
  • Deputise for the Lead Radiographer and provide operational oversight of the PMCT service when required.
  • Support the supervision, development and mentoring of radiographers, students and visiting professionals.
  • Provide professional guidance and advice to colleagues and partner organisations to support service delivery and compliance.
  • Promote high standards of radiographic practice, quality assurance and radiation safety across the service.
  • Support training delivery and knowledge sharing to help develop capability within the Post-Mortem Imaging Service.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • To be considered for this position, you should meet the following requirements:
  • BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent qualification)
  • HCPC registration as a Diagnostic Radiographer
  • NHS Band 6 equivalent experience
  • Proficient and competent in CT scanning
