Are you a skilled vehicle mechanic looking for a role where your expertise makes a real difference to the local community?

We are seeking a motivated, reliable and experienced HGV mechanic to join our Fleet Services team, maintaining and repairing a diverse range of vehicles and equipment to ensure they remain safe, compliant and roadworthy. From routine servicing and diagnostics to fault finding and repairs, you will play a key role in keeping essential council services moving.

What you will be doing:

  • Carrying out MOT preparation, servicing, maintenance, and repairs to HGV vehicles such as refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers and light to medium sized commercial vehicles.
  • Diagnosing vehicle defects in the workshop and carry out repairs in a timely manner.
  • Attending vehicle breakdowns and where possible rectify defects at the roadside.
  • At times you may be called upon to undertake repairs, maintenance and servicing to agricultural vehicles, plant and equipment including mowers. In this instance, full training will be given.

What we are looking for:

  • A qualified mechanic or someone with demonstrable vehicle maintenance experience in a similar role.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • A commitment to health and safety in a vehicle workshop setting.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A full clean UK driving licence.

A driving licence including HGV Category C is desirable in order to road test the vehicles, however, we will provide support to attain your HGV licence if necessary.

You will be required to participate in an out of hours’ standby service, on a rota basis, when the fleet is operational outside normal working hours and at weekends. An additional stand-by allowance is payable when on-call.

What do we offer?

In addition to a competitive salary, the benefits of working for us include:

  • Generous annual leave package - 29 days annual leave, rising to 33 days after 5 years completed service plus 8 bank holidays per year.
  • Employee Assistance programme.
  • Option to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) plus access to a salary sacrifice scheme for added voluntary pension contributions.
  • Opportunities for training, learning and development.
  • Discounted leisure membership with the Fit for Work scheme.
  • Free workplace parking.
  • Access to an employee benefits discount and salary sacrifice scheme.
