About the role

Tennyson Lodge is a lively, welcoming day service where no two days are the same. We support adults with learning disabilities to live full, meaningful lives—building confidence, developing independence, and having fun along the way.

As a Support Worker, you’ll play a key part in creating a positive, inclusive environment where people feel valued, empowered and supported to achieve their goals. Whether it’s leading creative activities, encouraging new skills, or supporting someone to engage with their community, you’ll help make every day purposeful and rewarding.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a passionate, supportive team where your enthusiasm, ideas, and compassion can truly make a difference.

The day centre is open Monday-Friday 9am-4pm and the working hours are 8.50am-5.10pm Mondays and 8.50am-4pm Tuesday-Friday. The hours are subject to change depending on service need. The starting pay for the posts is £13.45 per hour.

For more information or to chat about this opportunity please contact Lisa Lofting on 01354 750202.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

Every day will bring something new, but your role will centre around supporting individuals to live as independently and confidently as possible. You will:

  • Build positive, trusting relationships and support people to achieve their personal goals and outcomes.
  • Deliver and support engaging activities both within the centre and out in the community, promoting life skills, wellbeing and social inclusion.
  • Encourage independence by helping people develop everyday skills and make their own choices
  • Provide person-centred support tailored to individual needs, including personal care and medication where required.
  • Work as part of a collaborative team, contributing to support plans, risk assessments and reviews
  • Use IT systems to keep accurate records and ensure high-quality care delivery.
  • Promote dignity, respect and equality in everything you do, helping people feel safe, heard and valued

This is a hands-on, meaningful role where your support will directly enhance someone’s quality of life.

This role is for 29.9 hours per week every week on a rota basis. As the role is part time, it does not meet the salary requirements for us to be able to offer sponsorship.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is caring, enthusiastic and ready to make a real difference. You don’t just see this as a job, you’re passionate about supporting others to thrive.

You will have a genuine commitment to supporting people with disabilities to live independent, fulfilling lives.

You will be a great communicator, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships, a team player who can also use their initiative and adapt to changing situations.

You will have a Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care and commitment to further training and you will also be confident using IT systems for recording and communication.

You will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and a person-centred approach, be flexible, reliable and committed to delivering high-quality support.

Most importantly, you’ll bring empathy, positivity and a can-do attitude, because the impact you make every day really matters.

Please use your supporting statement to outline how your skills and experience meet the essential criteria outlined in the attached Job Description/Person specification.

Please note: We may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications. We encourage interested candidates to apply as soon as possible.

About us

Cambridgeshire is a great place to work and live with a diverse population, an urban centre in Cambridge, historic Isle of Ely, Huntingdon and St Ives as well as more rural landscapes.

Our four values are central to our culture, driving everything we do.

We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire and want our workforce to be reflective of this diversity, which we firmly believe benefits our colleagues, the organisation and our communities. If you don’t meet every single requirement in the job role but think this could be you, please don’t be put off. We are committed to building a workplace that is compassionate and inclusive as well as diverse, so if you think you could be a good candidate for this role please consider applying and speak to the recruiting manager if you have any questions.

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, along with our employee network 'IDEAL' and self-organised peer support groups help us to foster an inclusive, supportive and safe working environment where people feel valued, respected, and empowered. We collect relevant diversity data for monitoring as part of the recruitment process to understand the diversity of our applicants and monitor any trends throughout the recruitment processes so that we can take meaningful action.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader. We fully support providing reasonable adjustments throughout our recruitment process, as well as when you join us, and we encourage candidates to contact the Hiring Manager, whose details can be found in the advert, to discuss any adjustment needs. Through a Guaranteed Interview Scheme, we will offer an interview to all applicants who disclose a disability and meet the essential criteria for a job vacancy. On your application form you can indicate you are disabled. Some examples of reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process could include additional time to complete an assessment or printing a document on pastel coloured paper with larger font size and line spacing. We would value talking about what might be possible to enable you to join us and thrive, so if there is something that would help you to do your best during your journey with us, please get in touch.
