  • Scarborough House Supported Living Service - Stevenage - 37 hours per week

Who we are

Our supported living and short breaks services support adults with various disabilities. Some have learning or physical disabilities and need high levels of physical support, others can meet their own day to day needs but may have behaviours of concern, mental ill-health or just a need for support to get through their everyday lives.

About the role

Working in peoples’ own homes on our sites, to support them with:

  • Meeting their basic daily needs and achieving their goals
  • Personal hygiene, eating and drinking
  • Keeping their homes clean
  • Managing their money
  • Taking their medication
  • Attending health appointments
  • Joining in with social and leisure activities at home and in their local community
  • Updating paperwork using IT systems

In short breaks, people rely on you to support them to enjoy their time away from home while their carers have a well-deserved break.

As a Senior Support Worker, you will lead shifts – overseeing the team and dealing with day-to-day challenges, supervise others and take on an additional area of responsibility such as coordination of training or health and safety.

Our services need you to support people with personal care, in some this involves using moving and handling equipment and, in those services, you would need to be physically able to manage this type of work.

Our roles involve shift work on either days or nights, including weekends and bank holidays. Some roles require you to sleep in.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take a step towards management with great support.

About you

Essential:

You need to have some experience as a Support Worker for this role and to hold an RQF Level 2 award or equivalent. If successful you must be willing to undertake an RQF level 3 award – we will support you with all the additional training you need.

Our services require supporting individuals with personal care including bathroom support, mobility aids, and dietary needs (training provided). This includes the use of moving and handling equipment, so it's important that you're physically capable of performing these tasks safely and effectively.

We welcome applications from candidates who currently reside in the UK with established proof of right to work documentation. We are not able to offer sponsorship at this time for this role.

Additional information

We are changing

Hertfordshire County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). If you are employed by Hertfordshire County on 1 April 2028, it is expected that most roles will transfer to the newly-created unitary councils on existing terms and conditions under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings – Protection of Employment) principles.

LGR is one of the biggest changes we will face in a generation. It will reshape how we work and how services are organised and gives us a real opportunity to build something better. To find out more, visit https://www.hertfordshire-lgr.co.uk/

Disability Confident
We are proud to be a Disability Confident employer and guarantee an interview to anyone disclosing a disability whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post.

Safeguarding
This role has been identified as requiring a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

English Fluency
The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post (for those whose language is a signed language the provision of a sign language interpreter who speaks English to the necessary standard of fluency will be required).
