The School Bursarial Service is a team of dedicated experienced education finance specialists, providing a client focused traded service covering operational finance support and strategic finance consultancy.
The team support a large number of local authority maintained schools across the borough, offering a range of flexible and comprehensive support options tailored to their needs. We work across all ages, phases and types of maintained education provision.
The School Bursarial Service (SBS) is committed to delivering efficient, professional, flexible, front-line support from a team with diverse experience and qualifications.
As a School Bursarial Service Senior Support Officer, you will:
Provide essential front-line support to schools in collecting, collating, maintaining, analysing and reporting on finance data, and monitoring outcomes in relation to schools’ financial performance.
Design and deliver impactful training session and assist the Head of Service in the development of the service, its systems and processes.
Support schools in producing and interpreting both financial and non-financial information, meeting statutory reporting requirements, forecasting, modelling and planning for the impact of internal and external risk factors and opportunities across all aspects of income and expenditure.
Provide strategic advice on funding streams, sustainable budget planning, benchmarking, financial efficiencies and deficit recovery planning.
Ensure continuous development so that our practice is of a high quality. We make ongoing improvements to our service, strengthening the way we work to increase levels of financial knowledge, sustainability and resilience within schools.
Collaborate and work in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders. Partnership working with schools and other local authority services and department is at the heart of our approach.

We try to go to the office at Ealing Headquarters at least once a week, and some of our work is done in the schools of the borough of Ealing.

Lead and manage a sustainable, innovative, evolving School Bursarial Service, comprised of dedicated experienced education finance specialists, providing a client focused traded service that delivers strategic, operational and complex financial management advice, support and training to a large number of local authority maintained schools across the borough.
Maintain frontload a case load of schools, delivering strategic, operational and complex financial management advice, support and training to school staff at all levels.
Manage and support with projects related to financial and resource management, including to deliver training programmes and develop the use of software solutions for effective budget monitoring and management.
Play a major role in supporting school financial sustainability, including supporting schools to set sustainable budgets, monitoring and risk management for school leaders and governors across all Local Authority maintained schools in Ealing and deficit recovery planning.
Play a pivotal role in the planning, co-ordination and strategic development of the Dedicated Schools Grant for schools, High Needs and Early Years, both devolved to schools and centrally retained. This will include budget modelling, forecasting, making finance recommendations and communicating key changes to senior management and schools.
Work with the head of service and Assistant Director on schools forum reporting, relationship management and decision making.
Collaborate, work in partnership with and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including schools, internal services and departments, other LA’s, education professionals and central government.

We have an great opportunity to join our Schools Data Team, working on data collection from our schools.Our School’s Data Team are the key to supporting schools to enable them to complete the Department of Education school censes. The school census is a statutory return which takes place during the autumn, spring, and summer terms. About the Team: The Health Determinants Collaboration (HDRC) is a new element of research infrastructure funding from the NIHR’s Public Health Programme based in local government.&nbsp; The Lambeth HDRC was developed in collaboration with Kings College London (KCL) and Black Thrive.&nbsp; The purpose is to enable local authorities to become more research-active, undertake new research and use existing evidence to inform our decision making, and undertake evaluation activities. We will have a central focus on health inequalities and actions to tackle problems faced by disadvantaged groups and areas. &nbsp;This post is part of Lambeth’s HDRC (called Lambeth HEART, for health determinants research and evaluation network). About the Role: The HDRC Research analysts will lead the development of the HDRC research analysis and data infrastructure working closely with research collaborators at Kings College London (KCL), other data scientists and analysts in the Council as well as NHS partners. &nbsp; The post holder will take ownership of developing and fostering a data analysis community of practice across the council and its research partners, sharing knowledge, skills and tools across different teams. To be considered for interview, your CV and supporting statement will clearly evidence Work with a range of data resources across the Lambeth health and wellbeing economy to develop an HDRC research data management system with a focus on social/wider health determinants linked to health and wellbeing outcomes data. &nbsp;Work with research partners and service directorates to build statistical models and algorithms that enable the interpretation of data for predictive analytics and insights that can drive improvements in the wider determinants of health and wellbeing at a local level.&nbsp; Work to open science principles- i.e., registering protocols, sharing code etc. Deploy specialised analytical skills set to respond to holistic and challenging requests from senior stakeholders.&nbsp; Manage requests from range of stakeholders including service directorates for intelligence related to the HDRC programme and to understand and define their requirements, advising on the ‘art of the possible’. Assess and prioritise requests, based on HDRC priorities and capacity within the team, and plan how to deliver them. Draw on capability of the wider data analysts as well as the wider analytical capability that sits within the service directorates. Ensure high quality outputs are delivered in response to requests, and that requirements are met as appropriate.
